Stevie is a real snuggle bunny. She loves to snuggle in bed and on the sofa. The first few times I threw her a squeaky toy she would bring it back and not release it (Wanted to play tug of war). I would tell her firmly 'Drop it' and praise her when she did. After only about 5 or 6 attempts she was bringing the toy back and dropping it in my hand before I could even give the command!......One very smart girl! She already knows her 'sit', 'stay', and 'come' commands. Also, she is walking on the leash much better already (Less pulling on her walks). She was almost perfect on her last walk last night. I think Stevie might have some treeing hound in her. She has chased two squirrels up trees in the backyard. She then puts her paws on the tree and looks up at them. She saw her first deer yesterday morning and only gave two barks and then just watched it move off. She saw one this morning on the other side of the fence and didn't even bark. She just watched it move away. She quickly lost interest and wanted to go back to playing fetch. And now for the best part. She went to the birthday party last Friday evening. She was exposed to about 25 strangers and one other dog. She just walked around the living and dining rooms to get her love and would move on to greet somebody new. She never attempted to beg for food. She walked by plates of pizza, ice cream and cake and never showed any interest. She also was very mellow with the other dog that was there. About every 5 minutes or so she would come back over to me and sit down next to me before making her rounds again. After most of the people had gone home my grandson wanted to watch a movie. While the four of us were watching the movie she just laid in front of the TV and went to sleep (boring I guess). As I'm typing this I have a dog head on my foot. Stevie is a very sweet girl. Anyways, I just wanted to thank you guys for a great new family member and companion. I think it is starting to sink in that this is really her permanent new home. She has been wagging her tail everytime I talk to her today. She has a lot more spring in her walk today and seems very happy. She is also starting to pickup on my routines already. (Gets excited when she sees my shoes going on or I pick up my keys etc). I'm soooo happy to have her, THANK YOU! —Gary F.
Jezebelle, Jezzy, Jez, does it rhyme with LOVE? You bet! Little did I know last summer that I would meet the second love of my life at the age of 47….of course my first love being my husband. When I first met Jezebelle she was known as Leah and had a little sister with her at the SNIPPP yard sale. The kindness of her face is what caught my attention but, you see, I really wasn’t sure I wanted a female dog. I had only owned male dogs my entire life and I already had 2 dogs. However, one of my males was very old and I knew we would not have much more time with him. My other male had never been without a buddy and I was very worried about what would happen when a decision had to be made. SO…at the back of my mind was finding another companion that would fit into our little family. Both girls were asleep when I approached but Jezebelle opened one eye & looked straight at me. She wasn’t that interested at first because it was after lunch & a warm afternoon — sleep was coming so easily — did she really have to entertain one more interested person? I told her I understood, go back to napping, she had shown enough to peek my interest. I walked away with a little tug of the heart telling myself if it was “meant to be” that she would be available later. Of course as life goes I was not able to make it back that day and assumed she had found a new home. It was about a week later that I found out that Jezebelle was with a good friend of mine, Linda Yarbrough. Of course, Linda couldn’t wait to tell me what a wonderful girl she was. I continued to debate with my husband about another dog and he asked to give it a little more time. It was at this time that Jezebelle was appointed to go to the PETCO adoption on a Saturday. At the last minute Ken Yarbrough realized he did not have enough room for Jezebelle and so he kept her at home. I received an email from Linda asking how serious I was about Jezebelle, she had to leave for a family event and Ken would be home alone with all the animals…would I be interested in trying Jezebelle out for a week? I talked again to hubby, He finally consented and Ken promptly brought her to our house. Of course she fit in like an old shoe! What a wonderful, easy going, kind dog. She is also very vocal (as most females are says the Mr of the house). She gives with her WHOLE heart and loves anyone who walks into the house. On top of that she is a stunning dog, looking like a German Shepherd in her coloring but having lovely long silky ears and the softest coat. I try not to think of what would have happened if this lovely girl had not become part of our lives. So, from the bottoms of our hearts Jezebelle & I thank you SNIPPP for coming together into this great organization that saves lives & brings so much joy!
I wanted to say hi. I am almost 7 months old now and 70 pounds. I got fixed about 5 weeks ago. I am making new friends at the local puppy park. I am told that I have a pretty deep bark now. I watch out for strangers walking up the street. In fact, I bark at anyone walking on a sidewalk that we happen to drive by.
I have a big Bay Window that I lay in facing the front of the house.
My family is really proud of me when we go for walks on the leash. They say I am almost perfect.
Have a great weekend.
Sam is doing great...he's in great health.
He's doing so much better, looks like a different dog now, he's not afraid of dogs anymore, he's still a little bit unsure about people when they approach him, but after a few seconds he's already their best friend :)..... oh....and he already has a girlfriend, Roxy, our next door neighbor's dog, when they see each other in the yard, they just run together along the fences (she is on the other side) and they kiss each other through the fences...... they are so cute!!!!! :)
Here we are last Sunday down at the bay just a mile from my house, he loves to walk with us and he's so curious, especially of seagulls, he just stops looks at them for few seconds..... and then goes into the hunting mode..... but obviously when he gets to them they are already gone!!!
